Wordless Wednesday: Adopted Pets Rock
Sydney adopted January 2005

Sydney came from the City of Petaluma Shelter. A bundle of energy ready to train into a burst of agility by our child, dog and daughter forged a strong bond.
Sydney, dubbed “Sid Vicious” for chewing on shelter workers fingers, turned out to be loyal, loving hearted and healing for our family. He still has the best pair of canine watch dog ears, we have watched in action in our home. This boy, labeled a biter, had a record of biting Vets and groomers. Sure, he bit us for the first few months until we could train him out of such a puppy-age-habit.
He remains our rock star, even as he turns 10!

Aww, Sid IS a star! Agility has helped “save” lots of our pals. Amazing what a little fun and training will do, isn’t it!

What a sweet comment. Thanks.
I believe our dogs need those positive emotions, which positive training and activities give them. To loosely quote Temple Grandin, “Animal welfare is not just the absence of negative elements, but the engagement of animals in SEEKING…”a neuroscience term for all positive feelings.
We had a blast in agility classes but were not able to do more than build some backyard items. Sydney tends to get overjoyed and bark himself to the point of exhaustion in highly stimulating settings. He is great in a dog park with a few gentle dogs.

Thanks, he sure charmed us.

Thanks for writing to Sydney. We were very lucky that the shelter waited 3 weeks for an experienced family. He came with the biggest challenges we faced in an adoption, now Sydney has the best of all worlds, a forever family that has stretched to include many hearts.

Hi Paula, that’s for leaving a note. We kept his name from the shelter and it fit in with us. We’ve had rescue rabbits named Paris and London, why not add another world class city?

Happy Birthday Sid Vicious! 🙂

Actually, Sydney must wait until January to celebrate his birthday.
But our rescue house rabbit, Tokyo Tuxedo he’s hopping because his birthday is today October 18th.

🙂 why not?
